Salmon fishing from the 1st of February to the opening of the trout season on the 1st April is only available on named beats, booked in advance on a day only basis. This is the same from the end of the trout season to the finish of the salmon season. Day salmon permits cost around £20 and are available from all permit outlets.

During the trout season from the 1st April, salmon can be taken on any of the named beats with the purchase of a trout permit. Brown trout can be taken from any of the association water.

All fishing is by fly only apart from upstream worm during the summer. Please see permit for details.

There are a number of named beats on the river and these are the only places where migratory fish can be taken. Please make yourselves aware of the boundaries.

WHITEADDER ANGLING CODE

A Code of Conduct for Salmon & Sea-trout fishing on the River Whiteadder

Introduction

A meeting of the Whiteadder Riparian Owners was convened on 5th January 2005 regarding a proposed code of conduct for fishing throughout the river Whiteadder system. This was unanimously agreed by those present and is supported by others in written submission, including the Crown Estates. The following code of Conduct will therefore be adopted from 1st of February 2005. This code is supplementary to the Tweed Angling code.

Implementation of the Code

  1. Fishing will be fly only.
  2. No worm or other bait fishing will be permitted at any time.
  3. Fishing should not take place while standing on a weir or cauld.
  4. Hooks or tubes should conform to standard patterns and should not have additional weights attached. No hook larger than size 4 should be used.

Conservation measures are clearly shown to have a significant impact on maintenance and improvement of wild fish stocks and, in view of such, the following measures should be considered as part of the code of conduct:

  1. All anglers should return as many fish as possible, particularly hen fish.
  2. Ideally, anglers should only kill one salmon per day.
  3. Care must be taken to ensure juvenile salmon and trout are returned unharmed to the river.
